What is Nafed ?

Established in 1971, the National Agency for Export Development (NAFED) is formed to act as a special service agency of the Ministry of Trade. NAFED functions as a vocal point for Indonesian exporters and foreign importers to source for trade related information. Its objective is to assist and support local manufacturers in identifying and penetrating overseas markets for their products, which is done by providing market research information and relevant advice. It is expected NAFED assists Indonesian exporters to position their products and services better so that they are able to survive in the highly competitive global markets. NAFED also helps the importers by creating a central pool of information on products in Indonesia. To support this, NAFED has developed a computerized Trade Information Network, an on line with several regional offices as well as with international data banks for assisting both buyers and sellers. The Agency maintains a database of thousands of Indonesian manufacturers classified by product as well as another database of foreign buyers who may be of interest to Indonesian products.

Supported by expert staff of over 300 people, NAFED have built up 30-years experience in assisting thousands of companies, large and small, to sell their products in markets around the world. NAFED provides a comprehensive range of services including market identification and research, advice on export procedures and regulations, invitations to take part in trade fairs and trade missions at home and abroad.

NAFED's roles are to develop exports through:

To develop the products, NAFED helps the exporters to adjust their products to be compatible to the market`s demand. Beside that, the design consultation is also provided. Nevertheless, NAFED also encourages the SMEs' (Small Medium Enterprises) exporters to participate in a design competition in order to escalate quality of the design.

To enhance the exporter's potentiality, NAFED has conducted series of seminar, workshop and trainings. Those activities are conducted both in Indonesia Export Training Center (IETC) (in Jakarta) and REGIONAL EXPORT TRAINING AND PROMOTION CENTER (RETPC) (in Surabaya, Medan, Makassar and Banjarmasin).

NAFED concerts the promotion actively both online and offline. Virtual Exhibition (http://www.nafedve.com) is a form of online promotion done by NAFED. Continuously promotion both locally and internationally is done NAFED in order to introduce Indonesian products to the potential market. It is proactive in identifying manufacturers with suitable products for sale overseas as well as identifying new markets overseas. A substantial portion of Indonesia export growth is a result of the activities of NAFED together with private companies in penetrating new and non-traditional markets.
